Noted consumer activist and author will assist ACCESS in its continuing effort to educate consumers about abuses within the credit industry.
July 19, 2006 -- Denise Richardson, a consumer activist and author who is best known for her 15 year legal battle to clear her credit record of erroneous information, has agreed to join the board of directors of American Consumer Credit Education Support Services (ACCESS).
Ms. Richardson, who now resides in Florida, filed suit against Fleet Bank for misreporting her mortgage payments. She also sued Equifax, Trans Union and Experian for Fair Credit Reporting Act violations, stating that the bureaus knew or should have known that the information reported by Fleet was inaccurate.
“We are extremely excited that Denise has agreed to join our board of directors,” said L.E. Tighe, ACCESS President. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our organization. She has been steadfast in her resolve to bring greater transparency to the credit industry and to improve the way that consumers are treated by creditors and the CRAs .”
Ms. Richardson said, “I’m thrilled to join forces with an organization that strives to educate, support and assist consumers who continue to fight uphill battles while simply trying to retain their true and accurate credit identity. I hope to work towards uniting consumers with the voices of their advocates, essentially empowering consumers with a platform to be heard –and in doing so –a real opportunity to effect positive change.
