What if I disagree with the results of a credit dispute? PDF Print E-mail

You have the right to add a brief statement to your credit report. It needs to be 100 words or less and should include factual information. The Credit Reporting Agency must include a summary of your statement in all future credit reports issued.

The only problem is that many companies only pull point scores.  With point scores your statement is not reported.

For more information on Disputes - see "Credit Issues", "Your Rights"

I was a victim of identity theft when Comcast billed me for charges that I did not make. After informing Comcast of this and refusing to pay for charges I did not make it was then sent to CMI, a collection agency and negative reports were filed with all the credit bureaus. The credit bureaus would not remove from the reports after disputing.

Several things you can do.

First, add a statement to your credit report.

Second, file complaints with both the FTC and your state attorney general.

Third, escalate within Comcast. To do this, find out who the president or CEO of Comcast is and see if you can find their telephone number. I was able to find the following phone number: 215-286-8960. This is supposedly their executive office. When you call them, do not be rude or curt. Explain your situation, and tell them you need help.

If that phone number doesn't work, try their corporate number at 1-215-665-1700. Ask for the President's office and tell them you need some help.

Very few consumers ever escalate to the President or CEO levels. When they do, those consumers usually get a response. Large corporations often figure that any consumer that goes to the trouble to track down the company executives is also a consumer who will badmouth them if they don't get a resolution to their issue.

Just remember to remain calm and be polite. Using profanity or getting angry is a great way to get them to disconnect you.

You may also want to consider freezing your credit file. This will prevent access to instant credit but it will also make it very difficult for anyone to take out credit in your name. You can get a credit freeze for free if you are an identity theft victim but you will need to file a police report. You can then provide that report to the credit bureaus. You can find information on our site about credit freezes by searching on the term "credit freeze".

Hope this helps you.
