March 8, 2018 - If you ate at an Applebee's Restaurant owned by RMH Franchise Holdings late last year, you may be at risk for identity theft. The company owns and operates 160 locations located in located in Alabama, Arizona, , Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wyoming. Last month, the company determined that the point of sale terminals at its restaurants had been compromised with malware designed to steal credit card information.
The malware is believed to have been active on the company's POS terminals between November 23, 2017 and January 2, 2018. The dates that it was active varied by location so if you ate at any of the restaurants between those dates, you should monitor your credit card bills carefully.
According to data released by the company, the malware captured the names of customers along with their credit card numbers and security codes. It only impacted purchases made in restaurants. Online purchases were not affected.
RMH discovered the malware on February 13. The company notified law enforcement and has been working with an outside company to determine how it was placed on their terminals.
