April 16, 2019 – According to leaked company documents, Mark Zuckerberg engaged other Facebook company executives in discussions about selling user data while publicly stating that the company was concerned with user privacy. According to Facebook, the documents that were leaked were part discovery items in a lawsuit. One of the revelations to come out of them is that even though the company never actually sold user data, it traded that data with certain companies. For instance, user data was shared with Amazon because they were a large advertiser on the platform. At the same time, Facebook denied access to that data for companies that it considered to be competitors or unfriendly to the company’s interests according to a report from NBC.
